Just curious as to what everyone likes to listen to. ^_^ No doubt I've never heard of any of it... >.<
I'll start it off by saying my favourite English-language musician/singer is Sarah Brightman. She's an opera singer, but she does some nifty cross-over music, and her concerts are spectacular. ^_^
My favourite foreign-language singers include Alla Pugacheva, Ayumi Hamasaki, Origa, Gackt, and Masami Okui. ^_^

Sarah Brightman was that woman who sings the part for Chritine Diareah on The Phantom of The Opera soundtracks. She has a good voice, but I'd still like to beat her with a two by four for not shutting up more. She wasn't as bad as Carlotta, but good god, BREATH WOMAN!
That's all I've heard from her, but it was about the only stuff I listened to for two years or so. I still have it packed up, and like to listen to the songs every now and then.

Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth) has to be my favourite singer. Her voice is so unique. It can be demanding, innocent, sexy, powerful, persuasive. Almost everything. Other good singers would have to be Kurt Cobain(the wails mean something!), Leonard Cohen(entrancing) and Bob Dylan (tells a story like nobody else). Theres probably some more I cant think of right now tho. Billy Corgans also very good and so are Lee Ranaldo and Thurston Moore (both Sonic Youth)

I'm goin to refrain from replying to this other than to point out that I'm extremely offended by what you called the role of Christine Daae. That has to be one of the most challenging roles in musical theatre, and it was written specifically for Sarah Brightman to sing. You may not like Sarah's performance, but that's no reason to say that about a famous literary character.

No offense intended. The part may have been written for her, but the character was annoying enough that I can't understand why anybody would have fought over her. Again, she wasn't as bad as Carlotta, but she was still bad.. very, very bad.
It's all a matter of opinion though, so don't take it as a personal attack. Really, there is no reason to. I have heard a few of her pop songs, and they weren't as bad as her constant incessant wailing in that musical.
You know, my own opinion on this may not matter much since I'm bitter over women who act the way she did in that play, teasing two men and loving every second of it. Typical men, they both went right along with it. I used to think the musical was a work of genious, but now every time I hear it, having experienced the crap that these two went through to get at her, I am screaming, "WAKE UP YOU IDIOTS!"

Except that she didn't... Or is the only version you're talking about the movie that should never have been made? I haven't seen the movie - refuse to, actually - because I would rather not see my second favourite musical butchered the way my favourite (Cats) was when it was turned into a movie.
...As soon as I can find an inexpensive copy of the book, I'm going to read that too. ^_^
ETA, on a sillier note, if you think Sarah Brightman needs to breath more in POTO, you obviously haven't yet seen the videorecording of Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'Requiem'. ^_^ Hilariously funny if only for her facial expressions. She doesn't do it as much in her concert videos, which is a good thing.

Ha ha, I'll have to check that out. I love uncomfortable facial contortions. I haven't seen the movie either, I didn't want to ruin something I felt was great for so long.

I'm not sure where you'll be able to find the video of 'Requiem', because as far as I know, it hasn't been released, and the only time it's ever been shown on TV was when it was first recorded, and once a couple years back after the Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat aired on PBS. (That's when I saw it.)
Out of curiosity now, have you seen the show, then, or just heard the recordings? The recordings don't do it justice, at all. ^_^

I saw the show about 12 years ago when I was a softmore in highschool. I liked it.

Yay! Someone else who's seen it live! *glomp*
I've seen it twice now. ^_^ Just saw it again in Madison back on January 8th. I'm seeing Cats for the fifth time September 17. ^_^ Which makes me very happy. O.o Three musicals in one year - I'm being really spoiled! (Saw Les Mis in Chicago back in April...)

mmm, Last thing I saw in a theatre (we watch movies in Cinemas, to us Brits, theatres have live performances) was the Rocky Horror Show. It was great! I dressed up in a short black skirt, suspenders and tight netted top ;the show is a musical about transvestites from Transexual Transylvanian... apparently. Every stood up to do the time warp and sung and shouted and hassled characters and through toast about. It was fun! The last band I saw live were Coldplay who were awesome.

"Glomp" isn't a word just used in Gaia... I've seen it used in a couple anime, and I've never even been to Gaia. ^_^ It just means "tackle-hug", for anyone who doesn't know. ^_^

I think most rappers are a bunch of whining losers "Itz so tuff wiving in da ghettooo". You leave 50 cent alone with me and a decent handgun loaded with 9 bullets and Ill show him what its like to get shot for real. %0, ANYONE can survive 9 shots from a paintball gun... Your not special... I need to talk so because he is so retarded... stupid old man fiddy cent. Eminems just as bad.
Im sure that your Australian RnB artists arent as bad as good old British Blazing Squad. It takes 10 of them to make a noise that sounds like a cat getting its testicles stuck in a gyroscope. That wouldnt be very nice for that cat. I like cats! and ducks! and lizards!

50cent is seriously only worth 50cent's. Just because he got shot 9 times with a bullet doesn't mean people should love him because of that. I mean if a woman was stabbed 30 times including the face and released an album showing how tough and strong she is should we buy her album because of that? And you can't say he has any tallent at all!
