^_^
Got bored, and thought I'd share some of my game concept art. I love coloured pencils and markers, btw. ^_^
First, though, a bit of backstory. ^_^ My sister and I had been working on this idea for years before I came to art school, and when I had to choose a concept to work on in my Game Art classes, I naturally chose to continue it. Basically, the characters and places are drawn from Aztec mythology (Heaven is Aztlan- the homeworld of the Aztecs, because the ruler of Aztlan created Anahuac/the world in my game... etc). In the world of Seventh Sun, when the Europeans crossed the ocean, instead of conquering the Aztecs and such, they were conquered instead. ^_^ Since Aztlan created a third world (Aztlan and Mictlan - order and chaos - were the only things originally in existance), the universe is out of balance. Whenever things start to sway toward order or chaos (this usually happens when one of Anahuac's guardians is either killed or nearly killed), Anahuac is reborn. Each time this happens is called a Sun.
There were originally two guardians for each element: fire, water, wind, wood/life, and one for Warrior's Spirit (oddly, she is a cute little girl who wears pink, but then the symbols for Warrior's Spirit are flowers and butterflies, so...). These guardians are joined by a traitor lord of Mictlan.
This is the main character, a girl named Xalaquia (shah-lah-kee-ah). She's one of the guardians of Anahuac, and her element is Fire. I will never ever be bothered to draw the stripes on her skirt or all her beads again.
This is Nezahualcoyotl (nay-zah-whal-coy-oh-tl), and he is one of the wind guardians. ^_^ Yes, that's a guy. ^_^ My teacher told me to under no circumstances ever make Coyotl go to prison in my game, W. Not that I would - he's too pretty for that. ^_^ This is actually his second outfit, I'm keeping his other one around, though. ^_^ It had lots of belts on it.
This was my first concept drawing of Xalaquia. She has a huge-ass sword. ^_^
This is Ipalnemohuani (ee-pahl-nay-moe-wha-nee), and he is the rather androgynous looking creator god, the ruler of the First Layer of Aztlan. (Aztlan is shaped like an upside down stepped pyramid and has seven layers.) This was my first concept drawing of him. ^_^ I've now decided that his weapon is a scythe, and I've got a sketch of him with it somewhere.
And this is Mictlantecutli (meek-tlahn-tay-coo-tlee). He's rather ambiguously named, because that simply means "Lord of Mictlan/hell". I love his sword, but I can never remember the order of the details on it. >.<
This is one of my favourite pictures of Xala. ^_^
